Project-PTSC – Feasibility Study For Accommodation Barge Conversion To Pipelay
225kva Generator
The OCS-owned MGC225S Generator is a high-performance, prime-rated power unit designed for reliability in demanding offshore and marine construction environments. Powered by a Cummins 6CTA8.3-G2 water-cooled, 6-cylinder industrial diesel engine, this generator offers robust performance with a displacement of 8.3L. Delivering a maximum output of 180–225 kW and a rated output of 163–203.8 kW at 1500/1800 rpm, it provides the consistent power needed to support large-scale construction spreads and vessel operations. With fuel consumption rates of approximately 19–26 L/hr at 50–75% load, the generator balances high output with efficiency.
The generator is coupled with a MCWEL MW WHI274G (or equivalent) alternator, providing a rated output of 175–225 kVA with dual-frequency capability (50/60 Hz) and a power factor of 0.8. Designed as a three-phase, four-wire system, it supports a range of voltage outputs (200/220V or 400/440V), ensuring flexibility for different offshore project requirements. Housed within a compact frame measuring 3200 x 1100 x 1600 mm and weighing 2,500 kg, the unit also incorporates a 270L fuel tank and maintains low operating noise at 75 dBA @ 7m in open field conditions, enhancing its suitability for offshore deployment.
With its combination of high capacity, fuel efficiency, and low-noise design, the MGC225S is well suited to power-intensive operations such as submersible pumping, trenching support, and offshore pre-commissioning activities.
