Chevron Tantawan Decommissioning Project
Mermaid Subsea Thailand was awarded the contract to carry out the decommissioning of Tie-in Skids and Subsea Wellheads. To facilitate the removal of the piles, Mermaid Subsea awarded OCS a subcontract to provide Soil Plug Removal and Internal Pile Cutting services.
OCS Scope:
OCS scope of work included the provision of a Soil Plug Removal and Internal Pile Cutting spread together with qualified personnel onboard the DSV Van Gogh. The scope involved performing soil plug removal from the 30” docking piles for two subsea well heads and the 30” skid piles on pipeline tie in skid, providing access for the internal cutting head to cut the piles at 5 metres below the mudline. The Chevron facilities are located in a water depth of approximately 70 metres.
The soil plug removal spread was also utilised to carry out external dredging operations to reduce skin friction between the piles and the surrounding soil, enabling the piles to be recovered within the allowable pulling load limits.
Project Outcome:
The equipment and personnel performed exceptionally well, and the project was completed successfully. OCS combined in-depth marine construction expertise gained from many years of experience across all facets of the industry with best-in-class engineering capabilities to deliver the project. This positioned OCS to provide Mermaid with practical, well-engineered, and cost-effective solutions. Our equipment, supported by experienced marine construction management and engineering teams, enabled us to deliver a reliable and holistic solution for Mermaid.
